HEALTH EDUCATION - The Teen Ambassadors Program
The Teen Ambassadors Program is one of GapBuster’s most impactful and enduring initiatives, empowering youth aged 16-24 to become leaders in their communities. This program equips participants with vital knowledge on HIV prevention, reproductive health, social drug use, teen pregnancy, mental health, and other critical teen health issues.
Participants develop presentation and communication skills, enabling them to educate and engage their peers and broader communities effectively. Over the course of three months, students undergo comprehensive training led by experienced peer educators and guest presenters from both public and private sectors. The program culminates in a Teen Health Expo, organized in collaboration with local organizations and agencies, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills.
Successful graduates earn a Certificate of Completion, Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, and a stipend. Additionally, peer educators may have the unique opportunity to travel abroad to Africa, participating in cross-cultural exchanges to share insights on HIV prevention and promote healthy decision-making among young people.
The rewards of the Teen Ambassadors Program go beyond education; participants gain increased awareness of HIV/STD transmission and prevention, adopt healthier behaviors, boost their self-esteem, and build lifelong friendships—all while making a lasting impact in their communities.
