GapBuster is what truly exposed me to working with youth. I started working with kids and this gave me an opportunity to see what the world is really like. Prior to GapBuster, I had not traveled or met new people. I never thought about college or having a job working with the youth until meeting Dr. Butler and her staff. At first, I served as a volunteer which eventually turned into a job and mentorship. I was also a part of NSBE and was even a coach at one point.
Recently, I have been working full-time with Americorp/LAYC for the past 2 years to further my career to become a youth developer. I plan on becoming a business major so that I can start up my own company to help youth in the community. From my upbringing, I learned that it doesn’t matter where you came from, you can still do what you’d like to do.
